Based on the relationship between memory and history and the uses of the past, I analyze, in the minutes of meetings and interviews with members of the Associação de Amigos do Instituto Histórico, created in 2001, how historians in Baixada Fluminense reacted before the disposal of documents from the Instituto Histórico da Câmara Municipal de Duque de Caxias. Highlight the generational meeting of agents and the importance of maintaining the institution’s documentary collection for the writing of history.
