The propose of this article is to analyze the process of construction of the narrative about the Archipelago of Marajo in books, articles, diaries and letters produced by naturalist travelers in the 19th century. We depart from the assumption that the constructed and reported reality was shaped in the light of clashes of perceptions about life and work.
