Acquisition conditions and treatment of private fonds by public archives are important elements for understanding the history of these fonds and the institutions that housed them. Through the examination of reports and other documents, this article presents a case study involving the purchase of the Fundo Última Hora of Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo. Based on this, it discusses the consequences of that process.
