The article presents a quantitative analysis of the uses of the categories “urban peripheries” and “favelas” in scholar papers of graduate programs related to the urban studies field. 224 doctoral theses, published between 1987 and 2015, were selected to build a thematic framework and an autorship profile of these productions with the classification and analytical tools of the UrbanData-Brasil catalog.
