Abstract

In this article I present some xavantes narratives about the “whites” and their otherness, addressing the violence that marked the interactions between Indians and non-Indians, as well as the impact caused by non-Indians’ objects and diseases in xavantes communities in the period that preceded and succeeded the first interethnic contacts, between the 1940s and 1950s.

Keywords: xavante, otherness, interethnic contacts.
