This article indicates that the discursive structure of Consciência e realidade nacional, although simple, was appropriate to the phenomenological and existential postulates of the author. The adequacy between the format of the explanation and his philosophical principles allowed this philosopher of the Instituto Superior de Estudos Brasileiros (ISEB) to assume an inedited intelectual posture, and, breaking with the tradition of the social Brazilian thought, he formulated an anthology of the national character from his historicity.
